Introduction

The Department of Computer Science at Mahatma Basweshwar Mahavidyalaya, Latur was established in June 1998 with a vision to provide quality and industry-relevant education, especially to students from rural and semi-urban backgrounds. Since its inception, the department has been committed to promoting digital literacy, technical competence, and ethical values among learners. It offers a comprehensive and studentcentric learning environment aligned with modern academic and industry requirements. The curriculum adopts a multi-disciplinary approach by integrating core Computer Science with allied subjects. It is dynamic and regularly updated to include emerging technologies and current trends. The department provides flexibility through choice-based subject selection for specialization. It focuses on developing programming skills, logical thinking, analytical abilities, and problem-solving techniques. Modern teaching methods such as ICT-enabled tools, blended learning, and experiential learning are effectively used.

Emphasis is given to hands-on learning. Continuous internal evaluation and feedback mechanisms help in improving learning outcomes. The faculty members are dedicated, qualified, and actively involved in developing e-content and digital resources. The department organizes seminars, workshops, and projectbased activities for skill enhancement. The department provides excellent infrastructure and continues to grow as a progressive academic unit committed to excellence

Activity

The Departments of Physics, Computer Science, and Electronics organized a farewell programme for B.Sc.
Third Year students along with the valedictory function of the Add-on Certificate Course conducted by Dr.
Avinash H. Hedaoo. The programme was held in a warm and memorable atmosphere to appreciate the
outgoing students and recognize their academic journey. The event was graced by Dr. Avasthi, Principal of
COCSIT College, Latur, as the chief guest, and Dr. A. T. Shewale, Principal (I/C), as the presiding officer.
Dr. Avasthi guided students with valuable insights on career opportunities and higher education. Dr. A. T.
Shewale motivated students to maintain discipline and professional ethics in their future careers. The
programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. S. M. Dongarge, Head, Department of Physics and
Science Coordinator, along with Dr. Avinash H. Hedaoo, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer
Science, and Prof. R. S. Devhade from the Department of Electronics. During the valedictory session,
certificates were awarded to the successful participants of the Add-on Certificate Course. Students shared
their experiences and expressed gratitude towards the faculty members. The programme enhanced students’
confidence, communication skills, and career readiness. Such activities support holistic development, skill
enhancement, and improve student progression and institutional quality

The Departments of Computer Science, Electronics, and Physics organized a one-day educational tour for
undergraduate science students on 1st March 2026. The tour covered Basav Kalyan, Zara Narsimha, and
Bidar to provide experiential learning beyond the classroom. At Basav Kalyan, students visited the historic
fort, known for its strong defense structure and historical importance, along with the statue of Basaveshwara
and Anubhav Mandapam, gaining insights into the 12th-century reform movement. Students also visited the
museum at Basav Kalyan, where they observed historical artifacts, manuscripts, and cultural exhibits that
enhanced their understanding of history. The visit helped students understand the life and philosophy of Sant
Basaveshwara. At Zara Narsimha, students visited the famous temple, which is known for its unique cave
structure and spiritual significance, helping students learn about local beliefs and traditions. The tour then
proceeded to Bidar, where students explored important historical sites and visited the Gurudwara,
understanding its religious importance. Students also observed the architectural beauty and heritage of the
region. Throughout the tour, students actively participated in discussions and observation-based learning.
The tour was informative, enjoyable, and contributed to the overall academic, cultural, and personal
development of students. The tour was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Dr. S. M. Dongarge, Head,
Department of Physics and Science Coordinator, along with Dr. Avinash H. Hedaoo, Assistant Professor,
Department of Computer Science, Prof. R. S. Devhade, Department of Electronics, and Dr. V. N.
Waghmare, Department of Zoology.

The Department of Computer Science organized a 30-hour Add-on Certificate Course on “Digital
Office Automation using Google Tools”. The course was conducted with prior approval from the
Principal and under the guidance of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in accordance with
the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and National Education Policy 2020. Resource
persons were Dr. A.Hedaoo, Prof. R.S. Devhade, Miss. A. Kalyani, Mrs. S. Khubba, Mr. G.
Ranjankar, and Mr. P. Salve from the college. Student learned to create professional document,
preparing google sheet, slide, blogs and websites, conducting online surveys using google forms The
course was designed and successfully conducted by course coordinator Dr. Avinash H. Hedaoo. 62
students were registered for this course.

Course Outcome

On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to -

  • Identify the components of a personal computer system.
  • Students are able to use various data structures operations.
  • To develop programs using operators and control statement.
  • Develop skills to use various social networking sites like Twitter, Flickr, etc.
  • Get acquainted with internet threats and security mechanisms.
  • Data processing, data manipulating and data presentation with various application.
  • Understand and apply OOPs concepts.
  • Understand the cyber security threat landscape.
  • Write syntactically correct HTML code to structure web content (tables, forms, lists).
  • Customize WordPress themes to match design requirements.

Future Plans

  • To start BSc (AI), BSc (DS), MSc (CS).
  • Introduce add-on / certificate courses in emerging areas like AI, Data Science, Cyber Security.
  • Enhance the quality of teaching by acquiring course certifications from NPTEL.
  • Develop e-content and video lectures.
  • Promote blended learning.
  • Encourage student mini-projects, hackathons, and paper presentations.
  • Promote faculty research publications and funded projects.
