Introduction

The Department of Geography at Mahatma Basweshwar College, Latur was established in June 1973. The postgraduate programme was introduced in 2000, and the Research Centre was established in 2006. The department aims to provide comprehensive knowledge of physical, human, and applied geography with a strong emphasis on research and field-based learning.

The department focuses on understanding geographical processes, spatial patterns, and the relationship between humans and the environment. Through classroom teaching, fieldwork, laboratory practices, and research activities, students develop analytical skills and practical knowledge applicable to academic, professional, and societal needs.

Aims and Objectives

  • To acquire knowledge of geographical terminology, concepts, and processes shaping physical and human landscapes.
  • To gain subject-based knowledge in various specialized fields of Geography.
  • To understand economic activities in relation to geographical factors.
  • To develop the ability to interpret, present, and transform geographical data into appropriate forms.
  • To develop the ability to synthesize geographical information and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • To organize geographical ideas and apply geographical knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
  • To develop skills in reading, drawing, and interpreting maps, charts, and diagrams.
  • To observe and analyze geographical phenomena systematically.
  • To cultivate interest and a scientific attitude towards the study of geography.
  • To appreciate the role of geography in human life and sustainable development.
