Department of Mathematics
Introduction
The Department of Mathematics at Mahatma Basweshwar College, Latur was established in 1970 at the undergraduate level and expanded to the postgraduate level in 1976. The department is committed to providing a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and their applications in science, technology, and industry.
The department focuses on developing analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and logical reasoning among students. Emphasis is laid on both theoretical and applied mathematics, including computational techniques and the use of mathematical software for research and industrial applications.
Founded in 1970, the Department of Mathematics is a cornerstone of the Shri Mahatma Basweshwar Education Society’s vision for quality education. For over five decades, the department has contributed significantly to academic excellence and research development.

Since 2010, the Department of Mathematics has been flourishing under the leadership of Dr. Sujit Suresh Handibag (HOD), a recognized Research Guide who has modernized the department and promoted academic excellence.

The department currently has five research scholars pursuing Ph.D., reflecting its strong focus on advanced mathematical research and innovation.

Currently, four dedicated research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. in Mathematics, contributing to global mathematical knowledge through original research and scholarly publications.

Our students consistently demonstrate their academic prowess by participating
in prestigious competitions.
A notable milestone was the "One Day Regional Workshop
on Madhava Mathematics Competition" organized on January 2, 2018. Under the
leadership of Dr. Sujit S. Handibag as the Convener, the workshop served as a
platform for regional talent to engage with advanced mathematical problemsolving.
The department actively organizes high-level academic events to sharpen the
analytical skills of students and faculty.
