Introduction

The Department of English bears its own identity by its research work and various academic activities for the students. The department of English has a long tradition of scholars and individual talents where research and innovative ideas is the prime concern for the all-round development of the students. The head of the department always keeps the tradition of progress alive and strives for the betterment and personality development of the students by implementing and instilling among them novel ideas practically and skilfully. The department has organised 02 national conferences and 01 International conference of ISGS

The department emphasizes the development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It provides a strong foundation in English grammar, literature, and communication techniques, preparing students for higher studies, professional careers, and competitive examinations.

    Course Outcome

    B.A. Major in English (B.A. FY/SY/TY)

    Upon successful completion of the B.A. Major in English, students will be able to:

      • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of English literature across genres, periods, and movements.
      • Apply critical and theoretical approaches to analyze literary texts.
      • Exhibit advanced proficiency in academic writing, research, and presentation skills.
      • Appreciate the cultural, historical, and ethical dimensions of literature.
      • Engage creatively in writing, translation, and comparative literary studies.
      • Prepare for professional careers in teaching, publishing, journalism, creative industries, and higher studies.

    AEC – Compulsory English (B.A./B.Sc. B.Com, B.S.W. First and Second Years)

    Upon successful completion of the Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) – Compulsory English, students will be able to:

      • Communicate effectively in English across academic, social, and professional contexts.
      • Demonstrate improved reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
      • Write grammatically correct, coherent, and structured essays, reports, and functional documents.
      • Participate confidently in group discussions, interviews, and oral presentations.
      • Strengthen employability skills through enhanced fluency and accuracy in English usage.
      • Apply English language skills in competitive examinations and workplace settings.

      Vocational Courses (English) - (B.A. FY/SY)

      Upon completion of vocational courses in English, students will be able to:

      • Apply English language skills in practical, career-oriented contexts.
      • Demonstrate competence in workplace communication, documentation, and presentation.
      • Integrate soft skills and professional etiquette into academic and professional settings.
      • Translate theoretical knowledge into applied skills for employability.
      • Prepare for diverse career pathways such as teaching, corporate communication, translation, and cultural industries.

      SEC – Skill Enhancement Course: Body Language - (B.A. FY)

      Students completing this course will be able to:

      • Understand the role of non-verbal communication in personal and professional contexts.
      • Demonstrate effective use of gestures, posture, and facial expressions.
      • Interpret body language cues in interpersonal and group communication.
      • Apply body language skills to enhance confidence in interviews, presentations, and public speaking.

      SEC – Skill Enhancement Course: Soft Skills - (B.A. FY)

      Students completing this course will be able to:

      • Exhibit interpersonal skills essential for teamwork and leadership.
      • Demonstrate problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution abilities.
      • Communicate effectively in professional and social contexts.
      • Apply time management, adaptability, and emotional intelligence in real-life situations.
      • Strengthen employability through holistic personality development.

      VSEC – Skill Enhancement Course: Translation and Interpreting - (B.A. SY)

      Students completing this course will be able to:

      • Understand the principles and techniques of translation and interpreting.
      • Translate texts between English and regional languages with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
      • Demonstrate interpreting skills in academic, social, and professional contexts.
      • Apply translation skills in media, publishing, education, and corporate sectors.
      • Appreciate the role of translation in bridging cultural and linguistic gaps.

      Future Plans

      The department of English always believes in quality and innovative initiatives for the academic, literary, and communicative development of students and faculty. Keeping in view the motto of the department, the following initiatives are planned:

      • To strengthen the Mentor-Mentee program with specific activities.
      • To organize a short-term course on personality development titled “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” in August 2026.
      • To start a two-month value-added certificate course in “English Communication, Soft Skills, and Grammar” for BCA First Year students.
      • To start a bridge certificate course on “Academic Writing” for all UG/PG students.
      • To develop more innovative PPTs on syllabus topics using Smart Boards.
      • To prepare necessary academic aids to implement NEP-2020.
      • To organize a district-level Literary Poster Making and Presentation Competition.
      • To organize a “Literary General Knowledge Quiz Contest” among students.
      • To organize national-level online “Literary Quiz” contests.
      • To organize a Creative Writing Workshop in collaboration with Marathi and Hindi Departments.
      • To provide study material separately for “Slow Learners” and “Fast Learners”.
      • To introduce interdisciplinary literary workshops.
      • To organize a Language/Grammar Fest to showcase student talent.
      • To develop a multilingual language lab.
      • To organize a Film Festival for students.
      • To celebrate birth and death anniversaries of famous English authors.
      • To organize Book Review and Analysis competitions.
